Best salon booking software in Australia: how to choose.
The best salon booking software depends on how you attract clients, manage the appointment calendar and respond to cancellations. This Trimelo-published guide helps Australian salons and barbershops compare our platform with Fresha, Booksy and Timely using verifiable sources and a worked chair-count example.
Four options, four different reasons to choose.
This guide is published by Trimelo, so it is not an independent review. We compared each vendor's own public pricing and product pages on 24 September 2026; we have not tested every competitor workflow. Pricing pages can show a different currency by location. Open the source and confirm the Australian quote against your own invoice before deciding.
Trimelo
Trimelo pricingAn Australian salon or barbershop that brings in its own clients and wants predictable seat pricing and SMS cancellation backfill.
No consumer marketplace or retail shopfront. Beta applications are reviewed manually.
Fresha
Fresha pricingA business that wants bookings from a consumer marketplace alongside its own direct booking links.
Check the AU subscription, message allowances, optional AI Concierge and the one-time fee for new marketplace clients. Direct bookings are not marketplace leads.
Booksy
Booksy pricingA barber or beauty business that wants a consumer-facing discovery profile and optional paid promotion.
Confirm Australian availability, the price shown in your account, and whether optional Boost is worth its first-visit fee.
Timely
Timely pricingA team that values established scheduling and a broad salon-management feature set.
Choose the plan and staff count you actually need, then check messages, payment processing and migration support in the current AU quote.
What six chairs cost with Trimelo
A$109.70 / month
This is an example, not a customer saving: four seats × A$19.95 plus two seats × A$14.95. The lower rate applies only to seats five and six. AI SMS cancellation backfill is included; payment processing is separate.
For Fresha, Booksy and Timely, use your own Australian quote at six bookable staff. Put subscription, messages, optional add-ons, payment processing and any marketplace-originated new-client fee on separate lines. A marketplace may be worth paying for if it brings clients you would not have reached yourself.
Before moving the diary, use our salon and barbershop migration checklist. For a closer product comparison, read Trimelo vs Fresha.
- Match the tool to how you acquire clients
- Price the bill after the next hire, not only today’s headcount
- Treat gap-fill SMS as a product feature, not a slogan
- Demand a full export before you commit
Decision criteria that survive an invoice check
Predictable cost after the next hire. Compare flat, uniform and graduated per-seat models at today’s headcount and at your next growth milestone.
Empty-chair recovery, not only reminders. Late cancellations are a quiet leak. Software that texts the waitlist (one person at a time, chair held) is a different product from software that only sends “see you tomorrow” reminders.
Money path. Compare deposits, card-on-file consent, payment processing and any client-facing platform fee separately from the subscription.
Exit rights. Full export on demand. If leaving is painful by design, price that risk into the contract the same way you would a break fee.
Australian operating context. Look for AUD billing, timezone-aware messaging, Australian phone-number support and help that is available during your working day.
Migration steps that do not rewrite the book overnight
1. Export your current client list and recent appointments. Keep a secure local copy before you touch anything live.
2. Import supported Fresha, Timely, Square or generic CSV data into Trimelo on a 14-day trial. Map services, staff, and opening hours; test the public booking page on a private link before changing the live one.
3. Turn on deposits / card-on-file fee terms only after you have reviewed the consent copy clients will see — fees charge against the snapshot at booking time.
4. Enable SMS backfill with a small waitlist first. Confirm reply windows and how close to the hour an offer is still worth sending.
5. Run a controlled overlap with your old diary open, avoiding two public booking links that can accept the same slot. Only then move your public links and cancel the previous subscription.
A short decision checklist
Do you need marketplace leads, or do you already own demand through Instagram, Google, walk-ins and word of mouth? If you need the marketplace, favour tools that run one. If you do not, do not pay for that machinery.
How much will hiring three more stylists change the monthly and annual software bill?
When a 2pm cancels at 11am, does anyone get a text automatically — or does the slot sit open until someone at the desk notices?
Can you export every client this afternoon without a ticket queue?
Is AI gap-fill in the base price, or a second negotiation after you have already committed?
Where Trimelo fits in that list
Trimelo is built for independent Australian salons and barbershops (and solo chair-renters) who want transparent graduated seat pricing, AI SMS backfill included, and no commission path on clients they already earned.
It is not the right pick if you need marketplace acquisition, publicly available Tap to Pay today, or an AI voice receptionist — those are deferred or awaiting operational release, and we say so rather than burying them. During beta we do not invent adoption counts or outcome statistics to tip the scale.
